| MARIEHAMN
1996

In
August 1996 the Edible Finns gave a two part performance in Mariehamn, Åland.
First they cycled around the city and randomly had picnics in the
middle of the streets, inviting bypassers to
take part. As a grande finale they performed as a table in the
Kakelhallen gallery in Mariehamn. Gallery visitors were given the
opportunity to eat from a human table. The meal consisted of boats
made of black bread (a speciality of Åland). The boats had
masts of celery and sails of green algae and they were placed on
the bellies of the artists, where they moved up and down as if
floating on the waves at sea. In the centre was an island made
of butter.
