The building site

Pikisaarentie, Hirvensalo, Turku, Finland

It is not easy to get a building permission for a leaf shaped house in the centre of a city. The regulations usually defines a certain angel for the roof, colours of the walls and building materials if there are other houses around. After years of negotiations, the building committee in Turku decided that the project is important for the city and ordered the city planning committee to search for a piece of land for the house and found one on the island Hirvensalo, situated in front of the Turku harbour.

There are no close neighbours, which makes it easier to build a house of your own dreams. The place is excellent with a strong feeling. From the lot you have a direct view to the Turku castle over the water and you can see the big ferries going between Turku and Stockholm every day.

The strong differences between the dark and cold winters and the sunny summers makes the site look totally different, The house will rise where the old birch tree trunk is still standing.
