This is what I looked like on Sunday the 16th of April 1995 when I started my adventure as Saint Scrubbing Brush in my kitchen in Turku. My dress is of from utensils and materials used for professional cleaning. The picture is taken by photographer Henry Edman. If you want to take a closer look at it you can download a jpeg-version by clicking on the image.

On Monday the 17th of April I arrived at Galerie Sculptor, which is owned by the Finnish Sculptors' Association, a very renowned gallery.
I have always liked the idea of exhibiting here because the gallery is beautiful, it has traditions, and the sculptors are the really though guys and gals of finnish art, the last ones to go for superficial trends!
With me I had Joni Bergström,a young film-maker who was going to take some video-shots of the sculpture-performance.
We put up the cafeteria table and installed the computer and slept overnight in the gallery. I was going to live in the gallery until the end of the sculpture-performance on May 7,1995.

On Tuesday the 18th of April the whole gallery was professionally cleaned by the cleaning company Sol. Three cleaners scrubbed the floors, the walls, the roof, the windows, the spotlights, even the small space between the spotlights and the roof, so that nobody could find any place where even a small grain of dust could exist!

Push the Sol-boy if you want to see a Sol-girl!

And on Wednesday the 19th of April the bell rang and I stood there ready and well equipped for a two and a half weeks of fighting against the dirt. I was also ready to offer my visitors, not only a clean art experience, but good, hot coffee, specially designed cakes and some good company as well.
