The Christmas Tree Sandbox
Oulu Art Museum 1991

One of Andersson’s aims with public sculptures is that they would function as social meeting places, where people would take snapshots of themselves and of their families. His aim is also to make sculptures that are partly aesthetic objects and partly functional.
For a summer exhibition on the pedestrian street in the centre of Oulu, Andersson made a sandbox for children in the shape of a fir tree, which was placed close to an ice-cream stand. In the sandbox were toys in primary colours, making the work look like a Christmas tree.
