The Table of the Happy and Broken Hearts
Interactive sculpture, Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki, 1996
The visitors could use the knives attached to the table and carve messages.
The table makes tribute to old handicrafts. The sail was made by a professional sail maker from the island Åland, the paper bag by an artisan making hand made paper, the scissors by a blacksmith and the stone is from an island in the outer archipelago of Turku.
The three objects on the table allude to the game where you try to win your opponent by making signs at the same time; paper wins over the stone, scissors over the paper etc.
