My House is my Castle

Performance in Lappeenranta Art Museum, 2003

This performance was a continuation of the Last Boat performance. A small house was built with sheets of edible paper. On these, pictures of my and my partner Marjo’s faces and hands were printed with food colour. With a razor blade, small pieces of the walls were cut and served to the audience. A circle of small glasses with red wine surrounded the building and were handed out to the audience. The setup was intended to give connotations to the act of communion; the artist taking the place of the religious icons. But of course, it can as well be interpreted much more down to earth: The artist replicating the creative process, in other words, serving himself (and his family) to the public. Photos: Marjo Malin
